Columbus names a flat islet in the entrance la Amiga
Whoever has to enter the Mar de Santo Tomé should stand in a good league off the mouth of the entrance, over a flat islet that lies in the middle, which they named la Amiga, keeping the bow on it. And when he has come up to it within the ot. of a stone, let him pass on the west side, leaving it to the east, and keep close to it and not to the other side, because a very large reef runs out from the west, and even out at sea beyond it there are some three shoals, and this reef comes within a lombard shot of la Amiga; and between them he will pass, and will find at the shallowest seven fathoms, with gravel below, and inside he will find a harbor for all the ships in the world, where they may lie without moorings. Another reef and shoals run from the east side to the said island Amiga, and they are very large and run far out to sea, and it reaches as far as the cape, nearly two leagues; but between them there seemed to be an entrance two lombard shots from la Amiga; and at the foot of Monte Caribatan on the west side there is a very good harbor and a very large one.
