Columbus entered the Môle for the first time
Haitian
Christopher Columbus entered the Mole St. Nicolas for the first time on 6 December 1492; he named this port Saint Nicolas, after the saint, patron of that day and patron of this place ever since. Its configuration led him to give it the name of Mole. This port is the first place in Haiti where the Europeans, called by the Indians balanaêlès, that is to say men of the sea, landed; it had a second time the honour of a visit from the celebrated navigator.
Rouzier tells this under the entry MOLE SAINT NICOLAS ( le ).
