Colonel David Troy dies in the attack on the fort of La Sourde

Haitian

On 10 June 1809 President Pétion, going to attack Christophe in the North, after having attempted to cross the Artibonite with the bulk of his army, was obliged to give up this enterprise in the face of the enemy’s fire and of waters swollen by the rains; he sent General Lys with a column to the Sourde, and himself made for Saint Marc. On 12 June Lys set out from the Crête Brûlée, made a thrust into the North, and presented himself before the Sourde. On 21 June David Troy, colonel of the 22nd regiment, senator of the Republic, met his death in the attack on the fort. He was 39 years old.

Rouzier tells this under the entry SOURDE (la).
