Civil commissioners cross Morne Malanga to Jacmel
Haitian
MALANGA. Twenty-third and last rural section of the commune of Port-au-Prince, parish of Sainte Anne. It is included in the Fond-Ferrier. The morne Malanga, of the chain of the Hotte, was crossed on 5 June 1794 by the civil commissioners Santhonax and Polvérel, on their way from Port-au-Prince to Jacmel. It is since then that it bears the name of Morne des Commissaires. The road by the morne des Commissaires is the shortest there is for going from Port-au-Prince to Jacmel, but it is little used because of the dangers it presents. It is narrow, and two persons or two pack animals cannot pass abreast on it, or cross each other.
Rouzier tells this under the entry MALANGA.
