c. AD 1400 – 1600: The MC-6 site on Middle Caicos features a central stone-lined court that represents a remarkable piece of indigenous engineering. Measuring approximately 31 meters long, the court was meticulously leveled using marl soils transported from the nearby salina, resulting in a grade of only 10 centimeters over its entire surface. Double rows of undressed limestone flank the northern and southern margins of the court and are integrated into earthen ridges. This specialized construction served as the focal point of a larger plaza system defined by midden ridges and stone-lined pit features. Such labor-intensive landscape modification indicates the site’s importance as a center for social or ritual activity.
