AD 1490 – 1540 (Contact Evidence): At El Chorro de Maíta, the discovery of Aglats (metal lace tips) and glass beads in primary burial contexts alongside traditional shell ornaments suggests that European goods were initially integrated into existing indigenous status systems. Rather than causing an immediate collapse of local traditions, these items were treated as exotic prestige goods, similar to how rare stones or guanín had been used for centuries.
