AD 1200 – 1500 (Subsistence Infrastructure): Archaeological surveys in eastern Cuba have identified earth-and-stone embankments that may have served as more than just defensive or ceremonial markers. Some of these structures appear to have functioned as agricultural terraces or water management systems designed to stabilize the soil on steep hillsides for conuco farming. This suggests a highly engineered landscape tailored to maximize food production in varied terrains.
