c. AD 1200 – 1500 (Ceramics): Meillacoid pottery in eastern Cuba is characterized by a high frequency of simple hemispherical bowls, which researchers suggest may reflect a cultural preference for “pepper pot” style cooking. These vessels generally feature a limited range of decorations, with incised parallel lines being the most common motif. To the west, where environmental conditions were more favorable for large-scale agriculture, Meillacoid sites are typically larger and contain a wider variety of vessel shapes and complex designs. This regional variation demonstrates how environmental factors and subsistence strategies influenced the material culture of indigenous Cuban societies.
