c. AD 1000 – 1500 (Theory): The use of Cultural Resource Management (CRM) archaeology has significantly expanded the database for Caribbean prehistory by documenting sites that would otherwise be destroyed by modern development. Keegan and Hofman note that these projects often reveal “hidden” archaeological landscapes, such as small seasonal camps or specialized resource processing sites, that are frequently missed by traditional academic research. By integrating data from both large-scale excavations and CRM surveys, researchers can construct a more comprehensive and “vibrant” view of how indigenous populations utilized every facet of the island environment, from fertile valleys to marginal coastal zones.
