c. AD 1200 – 1500 (Subsistence Stability): Analysis of dietary remains from Meillacoid sites in Cuba shows a remarkably stable diet over several centuries, even as population density increased. Burenes (ceramic griddles for manioc bread) are abundant throughout the archaeological levels, indicating that the processing of root crops was a constant feature of domestic life. The consistency in the types of fish and mollusks consumed suggests that these communities successfully managed their local marine environments without depleting resources. This long-term ecological balance allowed for the steady growth of peaceful relations within the indigenous provinces.
