Boyer Bazelais lands at Miragoane and opens a six-month war

On 27 March 1883 Jean-Pierre Boyer Bazelais came ashore at Miragoane with Liberal Party men exiled by President Lysius Salomon, brought in from Jamaica and Cuba. Towns elsewhere rose with them. The risings were put down fast and Bazelais was left ringed in at Miragoane. His men held the town and fought government troops for more than six months. Bazelais died there on 27 October 1883, and the survivors capitulated after him.
