Bazelais, finding Saint-Marc strongly held, lands at Les Gonaïves and takes the town.
Haitian
This general, having arrived before Saint-Marc, learned that considerable forces were concentrated there. He took the resolution to go to Port-de-Paix. But informed that the 14th demi-brigade was in arms at Gros-Morne, that General Vernet had directed himself there from Les Gonaïves, and that this latter town, commanded by Magny, was almost empty of troops, he ordered, on 28 May, a landing to be made there. Magny strove in vain to defend the place. Bazelais launched a column against the post that guarded the public treasury; the gunners abandoned their piece of cannon after a few discharges. Magny was obliged to evacuate to the Pont-Gaudin plantation, dragging in his flight the widow of the Emperor.
