Barthélemy sets up headquarters on the habitation Pous
In 1865, at the beginning of the insurrection of Salnave, Guerrier Prophète defended the position of the Haut-du-Cap Bridge with 3 pieces of cannon against the troops of the Government, who had great difficulty dislodging him. The Government troops occupied the Haut-du-Cap from then on, and surrounded the Cap. They had at their head, first, General Lubérisse Barthélemy, who was wounded there and died soon after of the effects of his wound at St.-Marc, where he had withdrawn, and then General Nissage Saget, who was later President of Haiti. Barthélemy entered the Haut du Cap on 2 June 1865. The rebels offered him the presidency of Haiti. He refused. He had halted on the 3rd on the habitation Pous, where he established his headquarters. In this position, to the right of the main road, the troops were protected by a bend in the road against the fire of the entrenched battery that the rebels had raised at the head of the Haut-du-Cap bridge, but which they abandoned in order to entrench themselves behind the forts Vertières and Bélair.
Rouzier tells this under the entry HAUT DU CAP (le).
