André Rigaud dies at the head of the breakaway South

André Rigaud died on 18 September 1811. He was born at Les Cayes on 17 January 1761 and was the leading gens de couleur commander of the revolution. At his death he headed the Conseil du Sud, the government of a Southern Department then at war with Pétion’s West. Three days later his council met in his own house and elected Borgella to replace him.
