A Jesuit born at Cap-Français is murdered in the Paris September Massacres

Jacques Jules Bonnaud was born in Saint-Domingue in 1740 and died in Paris on 2 September 1792. He was arrested around 10 August 1792 and held at the Carmes prison. When the sans-culottes came through the prisons that September, he was killed along with many other priests. He is thought to be the first person born in Saint-Domingue to hold a professorship in Europe. Pope Pius XI beatified him on 17 October 1926.
