1968: The remains of former President Dumarsais Estimé were transferred to a shrine on the site of the Bicentenaire in a ceremony that included Voodoo symbols. Duvalier used the occasion to attack the ” occidentalism” of the mulatto elite and portray himself as Estimé’s true successor.
