1944-01: (Three Major Legislative Victories — During the 1940s the LFAS Crafting Supporting and Winning Three Major Legislative Victories: the January 1944 Women’s Wage Law Granting Women the Right to Hold Their Own Wages, the Repeal of the Child Illegitimacy Law in December 1944 Giving Children Born Outside of Legal Marriage the Same Rights as Children Born in Legal Marriage, and the Repeal of the Marriage Tax in January 1945): During the 1940s, the LFAS crafted, supported, and won three major legislative victories: the January 1944 women’s wage law, which granted women the right to hold their own wages; the repeal of the child illegitimacy law in December 1944, which gave children born outside of legal marriage the same rights as children born in legal marriage; and the repeal of the marriage tax in January 1945. The three victories together constituted a quiet revolution in family law — women could now keep what they earned, their children outside of marriage were no longer legally inferior, and the financial barrier to legal marriage was removed.
