1943: (The Foyer Ouvrier — In 1943 the LFAS Opening a Women’s Community Center Called the Foyer Ouvrier Offering Classes in Childcare Language and Cooking as Well as Space for a Library and Extracurricular Activities Such as Folkloric Singing Dance and Sports): In 1943, the LFAS also opened a women’s community center called the Foyer Ouvrier. The center offered classes in childcare, language, and cooking. The center also provided space for another library and extracurricular activities such as folkloric singing, dance, and sports — the Foyer was the LFAS’s most ambitious attempt to create a physical space where cross-class encounter could be structured and sustained, a room of their own that was also, in principle, a room for all women.
