1943-1945: (The Foyer’s Complications — the Foyer Being One Stopover for Women’s Political Wayfaring but Not Uncomplicated, While Madeleine and Jeanne Celebrated Haitian Folklore and Visited the Institut d’Ethnologie Getting Guided Tours by Griot Member Lorimer Denis — the Education at the Foyer Also Being Philosophically Oriented Toward a Catholic Ethos of Social Conservatism That Supported Girls’ Piety and Ultimate Legal Christian Marriage): The Foyer was one stopover for women’s political wayfaring, but it was not uncomplicated. While Madeleine and Jeanne celebrated the history and intellectual study of Haitian folklore and visited the Institut d’Ethnologie, getting guided tours by Griot member Lorimer Denis who enthusiastically provided them with the meanings of the collections, the education at the Foyer was also philosophically oriented toward a Catholic ethos of social conservatism that supported girls’ piety and ultimate legal Christian marriage — the LFAS that housed Vodou performances on the Rex Theatre stage simultaneously promoted Catholic marriage in the Foyer classroom, the contradiction unresolved.
