1936-09: (May Our Sons Go on a Pilgrimage — Perez Calling for the Sons to Go on a Pilgrimage of Love for the Fatherland to the Majestic Present That a Bronzé King Bequeathed, to Climb in the Footsteps of the Weeping Queen the Princes and the Counts and the Great Dilapidated Stairs Which Saw the Corpse of the Beloved Monarch King Henry Christophe Pass for the Last Time — “May Our Sons Greet the Ancestors in the Vestiges of Yesterday’s Glory and May They Feel in Their Hearts the Desire to Be Great and Good Haitians!”): Perez called for their sons to go on a pilgrimage of love for the Fatherland, to this majestic present that a bronzé King bequeathed to them. Let them climb, in the footsteps of the weeping Queen, the Princes and the Counts, and the great dilapidated stairs which saw the corpse of the beloved Monarch, King Henry Christophe, pass for the last time — the stairs which knew the active life, the torments, and all the victories of Him who carried, to the tomb, the dream of a grandiose and magnificent Haiti. May their sons greet the ancestors in the vestiges of yesterday’s glory, and may they feel in their hearts the desire to be great and good Haitians — the invocation of the weeping Queen alongside the dead King placed women’s grief at the center of the revolutionary inheritance.
