1936-06-07: (Madeleine Sylvain’s “Notre Conception du Féminisme” — At the Annual LFAS Conference on June 7 1936 Madeleine Sylvain Delivering a Speech in Which She Addressed a Special Thank You to the Members of Subsidiary Chapters Who Wanted to Travel to Leave Their Homes and Jobs to Prove Their Commitment to the Ideal That United Them, Asking “Can We Say at This Moment That the Haitian Woman Is Satisfied with Her Condition” When Representatives of Several Cities Were Not Afraid to Face the Fatigue of Long and Painful Travel for the Sole Purpose of Showing Solidarity): At the annual LFAS conference on June 7, 1936, Madeleine Sylvain delivered a speech titled “Notre Conception du Féminisme.” She addressed a special thank you to the members of subsidiary chapters who wanted to travel, to leave their homes and jobs, to prove their commitment to the ideal that united them. She asked whether anyone could say that the Haitian woman was satisfied with her condition, that she did not wish to evolve, when representatives of several cities of the Republic were not afraid to face the fatigue of a long and painful travel for the sole purpose of showing solidarity, to support their sisters — the question was rhetorical, and its answer was written in the bodies of the women who had made the journey.
