1889-October-09: Following the collapse of the Légitime government, Frederick Douglass, the newly appointed American Minister to Haiti, arrived in Port-au-Prince. Douglass, a world-renowned abolitionist, was initially greeted with immense enthusiasm by the Haitian public.
