1816 (The Hypocritical Seduction of the South): The royalist papers warn against the “seduction of a hypocrite” (Pétion) who has been won over by French ex-colonists to serve their purposes. This leader is accused of attempting to “demoralize the nation” in order to eventually plunge it back into an “abyss of evils” and slavery. The text appeals to those in the South to recognize the danger of this path and to return to the unity of the kingdom. This serves as a final ideological plea for national reunification under the King’s “tutelary” protection before the formal end of the volume.
