1811 (Establishment of the Hereditary Monarchy): The Council of State formally established Royalty in Hayti, citing the “genius of the supreme Magistrate” as the primary reason for the country’s restored order and prosperity. They determined that the title of President no longer suited the “martial ardour” of a nation that required a sovereign power to consolidate its independence. The Council decreed that the royal dignity would be hereditary within the family of King Henry Christophe, ensuring a stable succession. This act was presented as the “general wish of the people” to secure the nation’s future against both internal and external threats. The transition was officially codified as the “Constitutional Law of the Council of State.”
