1807: British forces took control of Curaçao and St.

1807: British forces took control of Curaçao and St. Thomas as a result of the ongoing Napoleonic Wars in Europe. This shift in military control brought these important trading hubs under British Navigation Acts, though exceptions were soon made for trade with Haiti.
