1803-Jun-23: Jean-Jacques Dessalines wrote to Lieutenant Governor George Nugent of Jamaica inviting British merchants to establish open trade in Haitian ports. He promised that British ships would find security and good faith while providing necessary manufactured goods and munitions for his army.
