1793-Sept.: The accepted terms of capitulation for La Grande Anse guaranteed the preservation of property laws in force before the French Revolution and maintained the Catholic religion. The agreement also included a ten-year suspension on the payment of debts to help the local population recover from the devastations of fire and pillage.
