1793-Sep.-25: The “Regente” of the Audiencia of Santo Domingo submitted a comprehensive report on the state of commerce and social order in the colony since 1788. The report detailed the devastating impact of the Haitian Revolution on the regional economy and the massive displacement of populations. It also analyzed the breakdown of traditional social hierarchies as free and enslaved people of color increasingly asserted their rights.
