1793-Jun.-21: In a desperate attempt to defeat Galbaud’s forces, the civil commissioners invited rebel negro chiefs to the city with offers of unconditional pardon and the plunder of the town. While the generals Jean François and Biassou rejected the terms, a chief named Macaya entered the capital with 3,000 insurgents and began an indiscriminate slaughter.
