1793-Jun.-21/23: A massive slaughter of white men, women, and children took place in Cape François as rebel forces and mulatto allies cut off their retreat to the harbor. The insurgents eventually set fire to the buildings, resulting in the destruction of more than half of what was once the most opulent city in the West Indies.
