1792-Jul.: A second commission composed of Santhonax, Polverel, and Ailhaud, along with a new governor named Desparbes and 8,000 national guards, departed from France. These men were described by contemporary observers as being inflamed with a spirit of fanaticism and projects of vengeance against the colonists.
