1791-Oct.-16: Commissioner Raboteau reported that 182 sugar plantations and 950 coffee, cotton, and indigo settlements had been destroyed since the initial slave uprising in August. He estimated that 100,000 slaves were in open rebellion and that approximately 1,200 white families had been reduced to absolute dependence on charity.
