1789-late: Mulatto populations in Jacmel and Artibonite rose in arms to demand the full benefit of all privileges enjoyed by the white colonists. These early revolts were easily overpowered, though the Western Provincial Assembly eventually granted a free and unconditional pardon to the insurgents at Artibonite.
