1789-late: Magistrate Ferrand de Beaudiere was brutally put to death by a crowd in Petit Goave after drafting a memorial for mulatto rights. The white inhabitants viewed his appeal for the national declaration of rights as a veiled summons for a general rising of the enslaved.
