1788–1803: (The Dual Collapse of Colonial Order): The history divides the revolutionary period into two distinct phases of collapse and rising consciousness. The first phase, 1788–1794, focuses on the spiritual and political spark of Bois Cayman and the influence of French revolutionary symbols like the “Carmagnole”. The second phase, 1801–1803, is somberly titled “The Death of Saint-Domingue,” chronicling the absolute end of French authority. These chapters detail the transition from a slave-based society to an armed population determined to secure independence. This period remains the most documented and celebrated arc of the Haitian national epic.
