1787: Insurrection aboard the Roy d’Ambris, bound for Cayes (Les) (voyage 32720)

African

On a slaving voyage that ended at Cayes (Les) in 1787, the people aboard the Roy d’Ambris rose against the crew. They had been taken at West Central Africa and St. Helena.

The record gives the numbers as: 109 people were embarked; 99 were landed.

Captain: Constantin, Guillaume. Flag: France. Recorded outcome, in the database’s words: “voyage completed as intended.”

Resistance is recorded only where a surviving document mentions it. The 571 such acts in the record are a floor. Silence in that column is silence in the archive. It says nothing about calm on the ship.
