1786: Attack from shore on the Vigilant (voyage 83970)

African

On a slaving voyage in 1786, the Vigilant was attacked from the shore. The people aboard had been taken at Anomabu, Adja, Agga.

The record gives the numbers as: 359 people were embarked.

Captain: Duncan, J. Flag: Great Britain. Recorded outcome, in the database’s words: “taken by Africans.”

Resistance is recorded only where a surviving document mentions it. The 571 such acts in the record are a floor. Silence in that column is silence in the archive. It says nothing about calm on the ship.
