1784: Insurrection aboard the Christiansborg, bound for Saint-Domingue (voyage 35028)

African

On a slaving voyage that ended at Saint-Domingue in 1784, the people aboard the Christiansborg rose against the crew. They had been taken at Sierra Leone estuary.

The record gives the numbers as: 407 people were embarked; 395 were landed; 12 died on the crossing.

Captain: Cock. Flag: Denmark / Baltic. Recorded outcome, in the database’s words: “sold slaves in Americas – subsequent fate unknown.”

Resistance is recorded only where a surviving document mentions it. The 571 such acts in the record are a floor. Silence in that column is silence in the archive. It says nothing about calm on the ship.
