1775: Insurrection aboard the Zanggodin, bound for St. Eustatius (voyage 11180)

African

On a slaving voyage that ended at St. Eustatius in 1775, the people aboard the Zanggodin rose against the crew. They had been taken at Gabon.

The record gives the numbers as: 103 people were embarked; 101 were landed; 2 died on the crossing.

Captain: Hoff, Ibbe Hendrich. Flag: Netherlands. Recorded outcome, in the database’s words: “sold in the Americas after disembarking slaves.”

Resistance is recorded only where a surviving document mentions it. The 571 such acts in the record are a floor. Silence in that column is silence in the archive. It says nothing about calm on the ship.
