1770: Insurrection aboard the Delight, bound for Dominica (voyage 91564)

African

On a slaving voyage that ended at Dominica in 1770, the people aboard the Delight rose against the crew. They had been taken at Cape Mount (Cape Grand Mount).

The record gives the numbers as: 232 people were embarked; 201 were landed.

Captain: Millroy, William. Flag: Great Britain. Recorded outcome, in the database’s words: “captured by slaves, recaptured and landed slaves in the Americas, lost.”

Resistance is recorded only where a surviving document mentions it. The 571 such acts in the record are a floor. Silence in that column is silence in the archive. It says nothing about calm on the ship.
