1767-Jan.-30: Market data from Saint-Marc showed that old wine was valued at 150 livres, while Moissac flour command a price of 80 livres. In the port of Cap-Français, essential provisions like beef were priced between 60 and 72 livres per barrel, while soap reached up to 120 livres per hundredweight. These price snapshots illustrate the heavy economic burden placed on colonial residents to maintain European standards of living through imports. The consistency of these reports allowed merchants to track regional variations in the value of both French supplies and colonial exports.
