1767-Jan.-18: Market reports from Les Cayes indicated that white sugar was trading between 40 and 48 livres, while cotton prices were stabilized at 180 to 185 livres. In the Northern Province, prices for the same commodities remained significantly higher, with cotton at Cap-Français reaching up to 220 livres. These regional price discrepancies were essential data points for merchants coordinating the movement of goods between the provinces and metropolitan France. The economic stability of the 1760s was reflected in the consistent demand for coffee and indigo across the island’s primary ports.
