1767-Feb.-14: M. le Chevalier-la-Martre, a prominent merchant in Cap-Français, notified his business associates of his relocation to a new office at the corner of Rue Penthievre and Rue St. Joseph. He continued to manage a diverse portfolio of commercial activities, including the trade of colonial commodities, general merchandise, and the recovery of debts. Such public notices were essential for maintaining the operational fluidity of the colonial capital’s dense and competitive merchant network. The frequent movement of elite traders reflected the evolving commercial geography of the city’s primary ports and markets.
