1766-Sep.-26: Private letters reported that King Louis XV narrowly escaped a life-threatening accident while hunting boar in the Forest of Compiègne. A furious boar suddenly charged and disemboweled the King’s horse in a secluded path of the forest. Fortunately, a relief horse was immediately available to the King, ensuring he remained unharmed during the encounter. This incident was shared with the residents of Saint-Domingue as a notable event regarding the safety of the monarch.
