1766: Insurrection aboard the Jeune Catherine, bound for Port-au-Prince (voyage 30821)

African

On a slaving voyage that ended at Port-au-Prince in 1766, the people aboard the Jeune Catherine rose against the crew. They had been taken at Senegambia and offshore Atlantic.

The record gives the numbers as: 83 people were embarked; 73 were landed; 10 died on the crossing.

Captain: Duval, G. Flag: France. Recorded outcome, in the database’s words: “condemned – Americas after disembarkation.”

Resistance is recorded only where a surviving document mentions it. The 571 such acts in the record are a floor. Silence in that column is silence in the archive. It says nothing about calm on the ship.
