1766-Dec.-31: The Bordeaux ship Le Triton, under Captain Coudin, reached the port of Cap-Français after completing a voyage from the Gold Coast of Africa. Cap-Français was the economic capital of the colony, and arrivals from West Africa were critical for the replenishment of the enslaved labor force. Ships from Bordeaux were among the most active in the trade, carrying manufactured goods to Africa and returning with agricultural products from the Caribbean. This maritime link further underscores the deep integration of African regional trade into the prosperity of the Northern Province.
