1766-Dec.-29: The Bordeaux vessel L’Aurore, under the command of Captain Gaujau, arrived at the port of Les Cayes after sailing from Martinique. This inter-island maritime link was a common feature of the French Caribbean trade, allowing for the redistribution of goods and information between the Lesser Antilles and Saint-Domingue. Shortly thereafter, on January 2nd, another Bordeaux ship named Le Juste reached the same port under Captain Laconfourgue. These arrivals supported the plantation economy of the Southern Province by bringing metropolitan supplies and colonial products.
