1765: Insurrection aboard the Galam, bound for Grenada (voyage 92309)

African

On a slaving voyage that ended at Grenada in 1765, the people aboard the Galam rose against the crew. They had been taken at Senegal.

The record gives the numbers as: 63 people were embarked; 56 were landed.

Captain: Hill, John. Flag: Great Britain. Recorded outcome, in the database’s words: “captured by slaves, recaptured and landed slaves in the Americas.”

Resistance is recorded only where a surviving document mentions it. The 571 such acts in the record are a floor. Silence in that column is silence in the archive. It says nothing about calm on the ship.
