1764: Insurrection aboard the Pink, bound for Suriname (voyage 11782)

African

On a slaving voyage that ended at Suriname in 1764, the people aboard the Pink rose against the crew. They had been taken at Grand Mesurado.

The record gives the numbers as: 74 people were embarked; 65 were landed.

Captain: Holst, Jan. Flag: Netherlands. Recorded outcome, in the database’s words: “bought at least one slave in Africa – subsequent fate unknown.”

Resistance is recorded only where a surviving document mentions it. The 571 such acts in the record are a floor. Silence in that column is silence in the archive. It says nothing about calm on the ship.
