1754: Attack from shore on the Prince George (voyage 37248)

African

On a slaving voyage in 1754, the Prince George was attacked from the shore. The people aboard had been taken at Gorée.

The record gives the numbers as: 149 people were embarked.

Captain: Ruff. Flag: USA. Recorded outcome, in the database’s words: “cut off by Africans from shore, ship did not reach the Americas.”

Resistance is recorded only where a surviving document mentions it. The 571 such acts in the record are a floor. Silence in that column is silence in the archive. It says nothing about calm on the ship.
